Platform for the implementation of anaerobic digestion in Flanders.

plant

How the platform was born.

Everything started with a man, Johan Vanacker, who was fascinated by anaerobic digestion (AD) and the ecological concept of nutrient recirculation and renewable energy as it already existed in Danish centralised biogasplants.
With the financial help of the Flemish government he initiated some study-projects on the subject of anaerobic digestion which were realised in co-operation with the Provinciale Industriële Hogeschool in Kortrijk (= technical university where industrial engineers in the field of environment are formed). These projects always had the aim to search solutions for problems that existed within the Flemish industry, as for example the problem of industrial organic waste and AD as a possible solution.

Function and tasks.

The functions and tasks of the Flemish AD-platform can be summarised as follows:

  • Providing independent information about AD and all side-aspects like biogas, hygienisation, legislation, different AD-technologies...
  • Providing first advice about all questions related to AD and bringing together initiatives in the field of AD with possible constructors of biogasplants.
  • Providing information to all demanding parties with the help of a database linked to our documentation center which covers all aspects of AD and legislation.
  • Stimulation of AD as an ecological technology to recycle industrial organic waste and to treat manure by producing renewable energy.
  • Defending the position of AD in Flanders in order to create a certain treatment capacity for organic waste.
  • Carry out tests to estimate the biogaspotential of different wastes, characterisation of inputmaterials, semi-continueous tests on mixed waste streams, feasibilty of digesting slaughterhouse waste... All these tests can be done in the 'Biogas Labo' which is the lab of the platform.
  • Assistance to people who want to initiate AD-projects or who have to prepare files or procedures in order to obtain certain permissions from the government.
  • Follow up of the Flemish projects in the field of AD. Every Flemish initiator of an AD-project is kindly invited to present his initiative on our website.
  • Organising workshops, study-tours or information sessions to promote AD in Flanders.
Defending the interests of members of the platform.

How to become a member?

Every constructor of biogasplants, consultancy company, waste treatment company, research institute, provider of AD-technology, individual person or just any other company can become a member or a sponsor of the platform.

What can we offer our members?

For the providers and constructors of biogasplants who become a member of the platform this is the best way to make themself known and to be spotted by the people who want to take initiatives in the field of AD. By having good contacts with the platform and by consulting the website they will have a good view on the Flemish market for anaerobic digestion. The same arguments are valid for engineering and consultancy companies.

Operators of biogasplants can also become members of the platform. For them the advantage is that the platform can act as a sort of federation of biogasplant-owners which defends their points of view with the authorities and their position within the market of waste treatment. These members can also rely on the platform for help with composing files and starting up or initiating of projects (e.g. study-projects) All members get discounts on plant-visit tours or symposia organised by the platform.

Becoming a member:

As a member your company name, address, person to contact and a short description of the companies activities is mentioned on the memberlist.

As a member your company name, address, person to contact, short description of your companies activities and a link to your website is mentioned on the memberlist.

Becoming a member is possible by filling up the form, by sending an e-mail or by taking contact with the platform on telephone number +32 56 241 236 Becoming a member is free!

Note: becoming a member of the platform does not mean that you become a member of the currently running study-project which ends 31 October 2002.
